Bee pollen is also an ideal nutritional supplement for vegetarian diets, containing all essential amino acids for humans. Its insoluble fiber content varies, depending on the flower you have on the surrounding area where the hives are, among 12% to 14% of the total weight, a fact which makes it a valuable aid, especially in cases of primary or functional constipation, which is most prevalent in healthy people, where constipation is due to disruption by poor diets and work and social sedentary life.
It´s also recommended the comsuption of bee pollen for the elderly, since they are most affected by constipation by eating foods that have no fiber such as sugar, cheese, sweets or rices.
What we commonly call fiber, can be of two types, soluble and insoluble. It is highly recommended that the ratio of soluble (the fiber in fruits, vegetables, legumes) triples the insoluble fiber (bee pollen, grain, bread).
How does it work soluble fiber what constipation regards?
- Increases the volume of faeces by absorbing water and its viscosity, becoming a kind of gel that decreases our feeling of hunger. This way helps to reduce the absoprtion of carbohydrates, having a positive influence on blood glucose level.
How does it work insoluble fiber to treat constipation?
Increases volume of faeces and helps to decrease the concentration and contact time with the carcinogenic potential substances of colon mucosa.
Recommended daily fiber consumption in adults: 25 to 30 grams of fiber. For children, the recommended amounts are lower than those in adults, around 10 grams of fiber a day, without adding high fiber supplements.
Having at breakfast two tablespoons of bee pollen (around 15 grams) to our yogur or fruit juice, we will be providing 2 grams of insoluble fiber to our daily intake.
Please note:
Only purchase organic certified bee pollen, to make sure is free of traces of pesticides or herbicides or beehive treatments.
Excessive fiber intake has a negative effect such as diarrhea or interference with the absoprtion of some minerals.
For those allergic to bee pollen, we can find fiber in other food ( fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, bread…).
